Can you select for large egg size by only hatching the largest eggs to eventually have a strain of chickens that lay larger eggs than what you started with? I know you can selectively breed your largest chickens to each other and increase the size of your birds, but didn't know if it works for eggs also.

I would assume so, since a bird's average egg size is genetic (other things can effect it, but I mean in general). Make sure to keep the roosters out of your largest eggs to breed to hens out of/laying the largest eggs. And when you need to add in new blood to keep from too much inbreeding, just look for more jumbo eggs [IMG]
