So this just happened.... all of our babies are the same age. We get the same size eggs everyday. We get 7-9 eggs per day, depending on who has cycled off. We didn’t collect yesterday. When we went to collect today, we either interrupted a lay, or one of them has started to lay on the clutch. Either way, we removed them all and found this one super jumbo egg compared to the regular large eggs we’ve been getting. Any reasons why??

My 4 month old EE hen started laying yesterday for the first time. She had a fairly normal first egg, today she laid a tinier egg! It is very warm here today and I have read heat has an affect on laying smaller eggs.

It’s a normal thing. It’s more normal if your hens are younger of course but I’ve seen oddball eggs being laid all through a hens lifetime. That egg shouldn’t be something to worry about.

One of my hens actually tied the world record for the smallest egg!
Unofficially though but the smallest on record I found was the same size as this.

Just a bit bigger than a dime!

So I’ve got 5-6 EE and I know only one of them is laying. Since I walked in on either the lay or her warming the clutch, would she be the one who is actually laying?

would she be the one who is actually laying?
It's possible, but if you want to check her vent it should be plump and moist.
There's also two pelvic bones on either side that you can feel the ends. If they're more than two fingers width apart, and if she squats when you put your hand over her outside of the nest. She's probably the one. GC

I haven't check vents, but I know for sure who is laying mine. About the squatting, my light Brahma started squatting too is she going to lay soon?
