Egg Size

My Chickens are beginning to lay eggs!! The eggs are looking pretty small. Will they get any bigger as my hens mature? My Brown Leghorns are laying first.

Yes they will get bigger as they get older. You may also get double yolk eggs sometimes, too.

They get bigger every time they lay. Its normal for them to be small at first. Give them time.

Mine started laying a few weeks ago and from the beginning their eggs were the size of about a large store bought egg. Recently one of them has begun to lay oversized eggs that are too big to fit into an egg carton. I think when they first start to lay (the first couple of months) the sizes and frequency are all over the place. If the egg has a nice shell, eat it and enjoy.

Not too long ago, I got an egg from my 4 1/2 month old GB, and it was too big to fit in the egg carton.
