Uhm, I just heard my 3 month old bantam doing the very distinct egg song noise. You know, the "cluck cluck cluck cluck CUU-LUCK" She's obviously too young to lay, and her sister is the same age so there is nowhere to have heard that.

What's up?

Also, what do you think of my written description of a chicken noise

Your description sounds more like an alarm call, which is more likely than the egg song. In my opinion the egg song isn't the egg song without an egg first, otherwise it's just noisy cackling.

Could be an 'alarm call'...the 'egg song' can happen before laying commences, but not that much before laying.
The calls can be hard to tell apart.

"cluck cluck cluck cluck CUU-LUCK"....also, what do you think of my written description of a chicken noise
More like bukbukbukbuk bukGAW  ;)

My girls’ alarm call is very hard to distinguish from their egg song (except for their aerial predator sound). That is more of a trill and then they all go still. Sometimes a few of them will be trilling the aerial predator call at the same time. I can almost never see what they’re seeing, but we do have hawks. When I see one, I attempt their call and they do sometimes run for cover! Their language is fascinating!

Depends also on how much of 3 months she is if it's close to 4 months you might get an egg soon my pullets started at just barely 4 months but I'm not familiar with bantams

Also the egg song is usually accompanied by the hen looking around for a nest box, looking lost or in a hurry looking around

My chicken was inside at the time. Perched on top of the cat tree. My first bantam didn't lay until 6 months. And there also wasn't anything in the room to alert her so I'm not sure what she was doing.

I had never heard of the egg song until coming here, I always thought it was the panic song, at leaving the nest to find one's friends VANISHED INTO THIN AIR!
And then the rest of the flock picks it up until you have enough of a racket to wake the dead lol. And people think roosters are the noisy ones. . . !
