Egg song without egg?

Since I've come home from being on vacation, my chickens are so loud and singing the egg song for the first time ever in the early morning, even when there is no egg. Could the change in their routine/feeding have made them all messed up? They were so quiet before, especially when laying an egg. Not a peep. Or is this spring hormones? They're pullets, they were born last June. I know they're still quieter than a barking dog but I definitely pause when it's a dead quiet winter Sunday and I hear them screaming out back LOL

Perfectly normal for them to sing the egg song when there's no egg, although I'm not sure why you noticed a sudden change. Mine sing when someone else lays an egg, when they're getting ready to lay, when they think about eggs.... I can even get them all going by doing buc-buc-buc-buc-BAGAWK noises.

they've honestly always been very quiet since they started laying, just tiny little sounds when they lay. I wonder if it's changed due to spring or just that I wasn't there every day drinking coffee with them in the morning like I was pre-vacation. But ya, it's so loud!
