Ok, so before i start: until recently i had no idea over laying was a thing. i figured as long as eggs were coming out my duck was healthy. i know better now.

i have an ≈4 yo pekin who spent the first two years of her life laying daily, (once she was old enough of course). then she abruptly stopped laying reliably. ghost eggs z, thin shells, odd times of day. sometimes a week with no egg at all. Recently ive noticed she is working extra hard to lay, and seems exhausted after. she gets calcium. she gets niacin. but im beginning to think maybe the time spent laying without a break may have done her some harm?

Now, i have HcG in my medicine cabinet. ive heard this can stop the egg production process. What would be the differential diagnosis one would go through to determine this as a course of action, and does anyone know the protocol for hcg administration?

for background i formerly worked in the medical field as a medic for an infantry unit, so im not inexperienced with the hands on process here.

Having problems laying can be from her being too fat. Not sure what you are feeding. Pekin in general are a meat breed so they put on weight easily. What do you feed? I personally would not give a duck a human hormone as mammals and birds are very different as far as reproduction. Laying more the first year or two is normal and than production starts to drop off yearly.
