Egg split in half??

I have 4 hens. I went to open the coop door this morning and discovered an egg that looked like a human had cracked it in half. It looks like some of the inside was eaten. I can't tell since the hay is in the way. But as I have read on other threads if a hen ate the egg it would have looked as if they pecked at it leaving the egg with puncture marks. Any ideas?

They likely pecked it just right in order to cracked it like that. If they continue to do this you can get a egg empty it out carefully and put mustard into it.a few mustard eggs and it should stop the habbit. Hope this helps and wish you the best.

I would find egg shells like that when I had mice.
When my chickens get an egg, and I give them eggs and have never had an egg eater, they eat everything, including the shell. Usually I'd find them licked clean when the mice were getting to them. Sometimes they'd be left in the nest box, other times they'd be in weird places like the feeder or poop board.

And for what its worth, my chickens have no problems eating mustard, spicy stuff or just about anything else that won't eat them first.
