Frequently such 'spots' are the result of lessened calcium in that portion of the shell. In my experience it has happened at the start or end of a laying cycle, but some hens routinely lay such eggs.
Yeah, this is the standard for our hens. Does it mean they need more calcium in their diet? We get the occasional soft egg, but majority of eggs have a hard shell.
Which one of your children laid that egg? You might want to offer them some oyster shell in addition to their Layer ration (if that is what you are using.) You could also give them a good multi-vit. IMO, calcium and protein are not the be-all end-all regarding egg quality or bird health.
Yeah, that should have been chickens! Lol! My autocorrect wouldn't give up until it read "children". I guess they are like my babies sometimes. I didn't realize there was a multivitamin for chickens? They forage every day and get layer feed. Plus they get a big helping of organic spinach.
