Hello, I'm wondering what a good place to store eggs before incubation would be. I've heard 55 degrees Fahrenheit is a good temperature for egg storage, and I don't think my refrigerator goes that warm. I don't know where I could put them that stays at that temperature (unless I put them underground ). Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I do have a basement, but it stays at the same temperature as the rest of the house (70-76).

I don't think the temperature means a whole lot. How long you store them before incubation plays a roll. I live in Florida. I don't have a cool place to store my eggs so I put them in egg cartons for a few days while I'm collecting the eggs I want to put in the incubator.

I'm storing them for up to 2 weeks at the most, maybe a little less.

The longer you store the more important the temp you are keeping them in matters, so try to get into that range as much as possible. You are aware your older eggs will most likely have a low hatch rate? Viability drops significantly after the seven day period.

Thanks for the tip! I didn't know viability dropped after a week. Since May 16 will mark my first year of keeping chickens, and this is my first time hatching, I'm still learning a lot of this stuff, so your help is very appreciated!
