I have a 3 yr old hen with distended belly and lack of appetite with a white (abnormal lash egg type thing) stuck in her vent! Please help! We've done 3 epson salt baths, used olive oil to lube up the area and tried helping but it's not coming out. I don't know what else to do I want to grab it with something and just pull it out for her! She is tired and exhausted from trying

Welcome to the site, sorry she is having issues. As soon as you can, (like asap), get 400-600 mg of calcium citrate plus d3 into her. You can find it in the human vitamin isle of most grocery stores. Pull her wattles down and pop the pill in her mouth whole.

Edit to add: this vitamin will help with muscle contractions to expel the egg or any lash material she is struggling with.

Can you message the egg out? Do it very gently. Sorry you are going thru this! And as said above get her some Calcium citrate plus d3!

Thank you! I have her a calcium, messaged her belly a bit, soaked her again and she just laid it! It was about 2/3 the size of a small egg. Poor girl. I don't know if that's what's making her belly distended and whatnot, but at least she got it out.

Awesome!! Does it seem like she has waterbelly?

She laid another one!! Unbelievable

Yes...although if this was an issue for her, maybe the "egg" was the culprit? I tried stringing out fluid twice and I just get a vacuum seal in the syringe, nothing will come out 😑

Im glad she passed two eggs, I’ve had a hen do this before, too. Is this her after laying? She may be having reproductive issues. These can stem from things like reproductive infections and cancers. Although I hope her issue is resolved after getting those both out. If she runs into anymore egg binding, immediately give the calcium plus d3. This has saved my hen many times.
