Hello ALL,

I have read several places (here and there) about the Motor on Little Giant egg turners getting VERY HOT. Is this normal?

Do the Motors on the Hovabator egg turner also get HOT?

What are your experiences?

AND, how has this affected your hatching?

Are these "HOT MOTORS" just worn out ...OR... is it typical of this type auto-egg-turner?

I'm gonna GET an egg turner OR ....BUILD one.

IF ALL of these turners get VERY HOT, I think I'd be better off designing and building my own..........

What does YOUR EXPERIENCE tell you?

Thanks for ANY responses!

they do get hot i bought a forced air fan for 9.99 on ebay and it really leveled out my temps.if the temps dont fluctuate too much outside i can go 3 to 4 days without touching my adjustment. i have an LG. hope that helps.

I was fortunate enough to get a FREE "parts incubator" from Kathyinmo here on Backyard Chickens. I merely paid for the shipping. I will need to buy a complete Thermostat switch and an egg-turner to make it work the way I would hope. (I think turning the eggs by hand REALLY makes hatching difficult from opening the incubator too much!)

I'm thinking of trying to buy the egg-turner on ebay....BUT, I don't want one with a worn-out motor. The "HOT MOTOR I've been noticing on Internet bothers me.

The incubator that Kathyinmo sent me HAS the FAN, which I consider essential.

I built a POOR incubator last year from an old Coleman beer cooler.
Didn't do it right. No hatch.

I may do it again because I have learned a lot about homemade incubators from coolers here on Backyard Chickens.

FIRST THING....get the old "Hovabator" running....then think about the other stuff..............

It's something for me to do.

Have 1 Rooster (Red Sex-Link...Beautiful and GOOD). Have 20 chickens 1 mature Buff Orpington, 2 mature Game Hens, 1 Buff Orp/ Red Sex-Link chick, 16 Black Sex-Link chicks. All the chicks are approx 8 weeks old and are really growing FAST.....almost as big as the hens now.

talk too much. Bye

I just got an LG incubator and egg turner and so far the motor hasnt got to hot.. and the incubator isnt even varrying at all, it is staying on the temp i set it too! its great!

Oh and one more question about egg turners if you dont mind... Which end of the egg goes into the turner? the big end or little end?

THANK YOU for the reply "Americana-Chick" !!!

I've noticed that the "egg-turners" for Little Giant Incubators sell on Ebay for less than the Hovabator "egg-turners" (at least RIGHT NOW). AND, folks HERE have told me that the LG turners fit easily in a Hovabator. So, I'm looking at BOTH turners.......just don't want to get a motor that runs HOT and may die on me or "cook the chicks".

I have noticed from the threads and postings here on "Backyard Chickens" that a little LOWER temperature doesn't hurt the hatch (may delay it), but a HIGHER temperature KILLS the embryos!!!

I hain't lookin to be killin' nuthin that ain't be tryin' to do ME in!

Now then some things ourta have HOT motors.....but I don't reckon an incubator is necessarily one of them things!

Thanks for your opinions! I sure would like some more opinions and/or observations!

Americana-Chick,

The Small end of the egg goes DOWN. (That leaves a GOOD SPACE for the "Air Sac" and for the chicks breathing to develop when the time comes for that.)

This is what I have read.

I'm CERTAINLY no expert on this stuff.

I'm an EXPERT on almost everything else, though!

The little giant one does, and the manual advises you to not set eggs very near (The closest egg cup) to the turner motor. I'm thinking this is because of all the energy wasted as is cycles through the motor.

Whiteconfections...

I'm very caable of "cooking eggs" on the STOVE.

(which I LIKE to do!)

BUT, I ain't at all remotely interested in cookin' them in the "bator".

Thanks for the reply!

I'm hoping other folks will "chime in" and give me their "input" ALSO.

Is the MOTOR on the "Little Giant" incubator different than the MOTOR on the Hovabator? (egg-turner motors)

????????:h
