Egg Turning Question

I'm in LOVE with the idea of hatching some eggs; but, I have a slight timeframe problem. I'm pregnant and due within the next 26 days (and dr thinks I'll go early). I want to get started on a hatch, but, I'm wondering if it will hurt the eggs/chicks if they miss a day of being turned while I'm in the hospital (i.e. instead of being turned 4-6 times in 2 days if they're turned 2-3 times in 2 days). Anyone know if they'd survive missing a couple turns?

Hrm... this is a toughie. The short answer is: they'll be fine missing a couple of turns for a day.

The long answer is that you might want to hold off on hatching until after you've delivered your baby. And please don't take this the wrong way, but you might be overwhelming yourself if you do both simultaneously. Heaven forbid your stay at the hospital takes longer than just a day, but it could theoretically happen; even for something as easily fixed as a case of jaundice.

Waiting a day or two after getting back from the hospital to set the eggs is a good idea. It'll give you time to recover from birth, and not miss even more turnings from sleeping all day to get your strength back up.

get an auto turner best bet. here they keep you in the hospital 2-3 days after you dilever so your total length of hospital time is 3-4 days then you go home

I'd definitely look into an auto turner. Its probably your best bet, for worst case scenarios. Ya know. Otherwise...Maybe hold off a bit?

That's what I was thinking. As much as I want to start a hatch ASAP, I know it might not be the smartest thing (bummer!). I am excited that I just found a supplier for fertile eggs near me. And they're only $15 per dozen for some great breeds! I think we'll end up buying an incubator and getting the eggs after we have the baby (either that or take the incubator to the hospital with us....LOL). Thank you for the good advice!

Oh gosh, I can see the look on the doctor and nurses faces right now. I can see it now. You in the delivery room, doctor yelling push and you saying wait we have to turn the chicken eggs. ha,ha,ha; This is about the best one I've heard yet. I wish my mom was still living for me to tell her this. She would have a kitten. She passed at 92 years old and oh the stories she had told me over the years. lol
Hang in there and it would be kind of hard to spread all that love between human baby and baby chicks. You wouldn't be able to keep your hands off of either. Oh my, this is so funny.
