OK whats the REAL rule on washing eggs??? Gettin the poop off

1. You can Leave it

or

2. You can use fine grit paper to remove the soiled spots

or

3. You can wash with water and a scrub brush. Make sure the water is slightly warmer than the egg (to keep bacteria from being absorbed into the egg)

I always do method 3...

But is it true that it washes off the eggs protective layer? Should you wash or not wash if you're going to incubate?

Oh, are we talking about eggs for incubating or eggs for laying...

If we are talking about incubating...i would not wash them.

If we are talking about eating...refer to my previous post.

It is recommended that you not incubate either washed or sanded eggs.

I always use a lightly damp paper towel to kinda wipe/scrub off any poop...is this bad?? Oh, and my eggs are not for incubating...

If you're going to incubate, I don't believe you should wash or sand. Try to keep the coop really clean and incubate the cleanest ones.

From what I've read here in the past, washing them will take off the bloom but if they're going in the fridge, it doesn't matter.

I wash if they're really dirty othewise I use a damp paper towel and only spot clean.
