I recently hard-boiled the eggs from one of my 5 chickens (I think from my speckled sussex), and the egg whites were soft and goopy, even though the yolks were well-cooked. They also tasted a little off, but were very fresh. The rest of the eggs from my flock seem fine. They all get scratch and pellets, lots of fresh greens, free range for bugs ect. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Was it just one egg or all the eggs from that hen? Sounds like something wasn't moving down the pluming right and the proteins were missing from the albumen there if it didn't denature while being boiled. Not sure what would cause it though.

Thanks for the reply and welcome. That is just what I was thinking about proteins being incomplete or messed up. All her eggs were like that - she is the only one of mine that lays small brown eggs, and those were the only ones with the problem.
