I have a bunch of girls who are all starting to lay around the same time. Today I found an egg with no shell. It was just a perfect yolk and a membrane? It it normal to get these every so often? Especially in the first few eggs. The girls have access to crushed oyster and are eating layer feed so it doesn't seem like it a problem of not enough calcium. Your thoughts?

That's not unusual for pullets when they first start to lay. It sometimes takes a while for their egg-laying mechanisms to synchronize. I've gotten some like that and even a shell with nothing in it but the yolk! Enjoy your eggs!!!

Sometimes if it's the first time laying you will might get a few till their internal tioming get straghtened out, and sometimes its just a freakish thing that happens, Things like that just happen I've had a few that looked perfect but the shell remained soft Sometimes it just depends

I thought this was normal but I wanted to check make sure. I'm actually happy this happened. It's a good indicator that one of the girls who hasn't started yet has now begun. Out of my six 2 have been laying steady for 3 weeks now. One girl is the same age but a late bloomer and the other 3 are 3 weeks younger. So right about now everybody should start laying. I tell you 2 chickens aren't keeping us in eggs!

I'm so glad you posted this!!!! I had the exact same thing happen today. My hens are starting to lay but I figured there were a few that hadn't started yet and I figured they were getting enough calcium. Now I know!!!!
