Egg yolk peritonitis - am I doing something wrong?

EYP and ascites (the water belly) are two different things.
Vet said ascites (retention of fluid in abdomen) can be caused by EYP, and he syringed liquid from her abdomen. I am just going off what my vet has told me. He said it's because the egg doesn't manage to drop into a certain part of their reproductive system, and instead drops into a part of their abdomen, causing "water belly" (ascites).

He also mentioned that trying to extract fluid from the abdomen can result in bacteria being introduced. This is what ended up happening in the past, and they turned very lethargic and lost weight very quickly :(

Again I'm not trying to be rude or argumentative, I'm just receiving conflicting information and would just like to understand it better 😁
Thank you for your help.
