Hello!
I am worried about one of my chickens. Yesterday morning I went out to check on her, and noticed that her lower abdomen (between her legs and vent) was really swollen, and it felt like she had an egg in there. I tried doing the whole bath treatment for an eggbound hen, but as I put her in the water I realized that egg feels like it is cracked. She seems to be walking around just fine, and she is eating and drinking. She has not laid an egg in almost a year, ever since she had a prolapsed vent that I fixed. I am really worried, and would love some help!

Welcome to BYC.
Does not sound like she is egg bound...more like laying internally.

Which is not fixable. :(

Thanks. What should I do for her?
There isn't much you can do if this has been going on for months.

Is a vet an option?
If it was something that just started antibiotics could help but at this point... A year...if she is still eating and such just leave her be. When she starts to go downhill it would be kind to help her/end her suffering.

I havn't noticed any sort of swelling until the other day though. Do you think this has been happening for a while, and i just didn't notice?
Chickens lay eggs...it's what they do so if she hasn't been laying for a year then something has been going on down there.

Do her dropping’s have egg shells or yolk in them?
Does her vent look flipped inside out?
Is she quarantined?
You could have broken the egg when your were feeling or bathing her which could lead to perontitis
Pictures?

Plus having a prolapse vent in the past...that doesn't just happen for no reason so I'd say that she does indeed have reproductive part problems.

you could start putting electrolytes in her water to make her feel better

Make sure to give her fresh feed and water in a dog carrier with tree shavings and grit and keep a eye on her droppings and behavior
