Is it possible to predict a hen is likely to become eggbound? Are there early warning signs?

I have one hen laying (Lucy) and a handful of pullets. Yesterday at dark, Lucy had not provided her daily egg. Still no egg by this afternoon. However, when Iwent out to visit right before sunset.... BAM! TWO EGGS!!

I know that her body couldn't have produced two eggs today, which says to me one of them was in produced a whole day before it was provided to me. There's a significant size difference, too. The egg on the left is about her average size.

The same thing happened about two weeks ago.

If she were your hen, would you consider it a sign that she might be prone to getting egg-bound? Or would you not worry?

I wouldn't worry unless this becomes a consistent issue. If she's a younger layer quirks aren't unusual, and even if she's an older hen, birds coming in or out of lay or more likely to have some oddities with laying.

Overall I think eggbound birds aren't nearly as common as folks might think, I've never seen it myself.

Thank you for responding.

I hadn't started to worry about it yet. With your response, I won't worry at all. It does make me understand how some people have mistakenly ' thought their bird laid two in one day.
