Eggbound or ?

Hello! First of all, there is no vet in my area who will treat chickens. I am currently waiting for a chicken vet to answer my question I posed on Just Answer.

I have a 1 year old Easter Egger that has been lethargic for 4 days. Two weeks ago several birds in my flock of 20 came down with a respiratory infection. I talked with a vet through email but all I was able to do to treat my flock was order antibiotics online and administer electrolytes, colloidal silver, B12. All of them got better and appear healthy.

This one hen was ill too but rebounded quickly with the antibiotics. Then, 4 days ago she started sitting off by herself, eyes closed. I brought herinside and she has not worsened or improved. She will eat if I hand feed her treats -- mealworms or scrambled eggs. She won't eat regular feed. She doesn't show interest in drinking but I believe she is drinking because the water level goes down when I'm not there. I have been giving her syringes of water with electrolytes, colloidal silver, B12, probiotics. She WILL perk up any time I bring the mealworms around and will even come over and stick her head in the bag and get them herself. She will also perk up when the dog walks by and she will act alert and sqwawk at her. She sleeps a lot but she can walk. She opens her eyes when I call her name. I checked for being egg bound and did not feel an egg at all and she has not been straining or trying to pass an egg. She just stands in the same spot. I administered a de-wormer. Her feces is sparse and when she passes it's liquidy. When I can get her to walk, she walks normally. I'm worried that she IS egg bound. I'm stuck at work all day and live an hour from home. I'm so worried about her. I'm going to pick up some TUMS to try to give her some calcium. Anyone have this happen and what did you do? Is it possible she is egg bound even though I can't feel an egg, her stomach is not hard and she's not straining?

Hi, I have a parrot that was egg-bound. I took her to the Avian Specialist and this is what I learned:
The vet did an ex-ray since the egg was too high too feel. (Vet does not believe bird owner). Big egg showed! This was day 2, after I had waited a day and a night for the egg to pass. Dylan (parrot) was dehydrated, she got an I.V. and was put into an incubator for another day to try to see if the egg would pass on its own. Day 4, the vet made me sign a DNR from incase the anestesia killed my bird, and while under was able to manually express the egg without surgery. Bill=$800.00.
After another day for recovery, sent home with calcium drops. You can buy these at Tractor Supply (on your way home) for about $8.00. Look for Calcium Gluconate (23mg/ml). The dose for a 1 lb bird was .5 ml by mouth every 24 hr for 20 days.
You could try this and skip the vet, but if the egg has formed and she can't pass it, I do not hold out any false hope to you.I have an article on this experience if you would like more detail.
