My little girl has stopped laying. Now she seems sick. She runs/walks as usual but sometimes she squats as she moves. I checked her vent and came out with white smelly pieces of something. Not sure what. Ideas?

Our hen did just that and it turned out to be the shell of a soft-shelled egg she had been bound with.
How old is she?
When did she stop laying?

She stopped a few weeks ago. After I checked her vent, she seems to be better. She is out running around and I don’t see her squatting anymore. I was told to get some probiotics to put in her water. So I’m going to do that. Thanks for replying! I’m hoping she’s better now. But I don’t see any eggs yet from her. She used to lay one a day up until about three weeks ago. I believe she is about four years old. She has survived a lot… She was part of six hens and a rooster a few years ago. All of them have died from attacks. She unfortunately witnessed the rooster and her buddy being killed by a dog. PTSD is real even for chickens. She didn’t come out of her coop for three weeks. I got two new hens to help her which worked. One of them was sick and died and the other one was eating eggs. So she is no longer with us. I bought four new chicks last spring and they are all now full grown and all five of my girls are doing fine. Quite the drama story!

Do you happen to still have those white smelly pieces that came out of her vent?

It sounds like your hen may be having reproductive difficulties and is passing lash material which is Salpingitis and inflammation of the oviduct.
If caught early and antibiotic may help with infection and provide supportive care.
Sometimes all you can do is ensure they are eating/drinking, their crop is emptying overnight and address any parasites.
