So, today was a super egg-citing day.... stripe laid her first egg!!!
Just wanted to share - it’s my very first egg from my own chicken
♥️⚠️

We have nesting boxes but she chose to make her own spot in the coop... thoughts ? Suggestions-
Thanks!

Congratulations on your first egg :bun

You might try putting a fake egg in the nesting box so Stripe will know where to direct future ones.
Thanks!
I previously had put a golf ball in the boxes -Because that’s what I had on hand - should I just give her time to see if she will use them? Is it a learned behavior?

Congratulations on your first very own egg! :celebrate
Yes, sometimes hens will choose their own laying area instead of the ones we give them! :lau But using golf balls does help teach them to lay in the boxes.

P.S. Stripe, you’re lookin’ good! Beautiful hen!

I just have them in for “inspiration”
I’ve had them in there for a
***oh geesh that’s because I have a toddler.
... a little while for inspiration- but clearly she’s smart enough to spot a fake. And fashion her own.
I had 6 chickens 5 of them turned out to be roosters. ( I know. I have horrible luck) I have added to strippers sisterhood for sure 4 other hens a few weeks apart. I was wondering if she would just wait and lay with them. But she did her own thing.
