I am proud to say we just got our first egg today!!

I believe it was from one of our Bantam hens because it was very small... plus the hens are only about 13-14 weeks old. It is small, brown with white speckles. Yay!

Anyway.... how often are you supposed to look for eggs? I was thinking 3 times a day - morning, midday, and evening?

thats so funny cause at first i looked ALL dang day as often as i was able..

Now, just a few weeks into it, i know by 8:30 my reds are done, and then again about 10 the EE's are, so i check again then. Dont think it matters though. Just something fun to do. oh, and also i did it because i wanted to prevent any egg eating by the hens from the get go so thought i'd better snag quick...

we just started getting eggs too. 20 week old golden lace wyandottes. There are so many behaviors that are new & I am new to this. I have to work on not wanting to go out to the coop every time one of the girls are squawking! I also am worried about snakes. We just killed a 2 ft garter snake out by the coop that may have been living in the compost heap just next to it. It think it is like having a new baby (or when the birds were just chicks), just couldn't ignore, have to keep checking. Such an amazing process AND so EGG-citing!
