Eggless 1yr old silkie

I have a silkie just over a year old and all my other Gena lay eggs except her. She went through some sort of issue when she was about 9 months old. We think she fell out of her roost but we aren’t sure. She wouldn’t eat and would stand alone by herself just starting off into space. We tube fed her for about 6weeks and she now eats on her own and gained her weight back. She is extraordinarily dumb (even for a hen) and struggles from time to time figuring the most basic tasks out. She is our special girl and it’s all good and fine except she has never been broody and hasn’t once laid an egg. We are ok with that but worried it is an indication of a bigger problem. Is it ok to just have our special needs hen and she doesn’t lay but live a healthy life?

For sure it’s ok ! I applaud you for caring for her and loving her, a silkie that doesn’t go broody is not a normal silkie from my experience... just love her they are all different and as long as she’s happy ? Who cares

I have a 26 month old Golden Comet that was attacked by a Coopers Hawk at 7 months. After she got over the trauma she would lay only thin shelled or rubber eggs. But otherwise she is a happy healthy hen.
She quit laying eggs last month but, still very active and foraging with her flock. I only have 3 hens, lost 2 earlier this year. I believe that three hens are the minimum for a outside flock to be happy and she is happy and healthy. . She is on the right. This pic was taken last Thursday. GC
