We have 16 hens that are now laying 1 egg per day. They are all about a year and a half old. We had a dog attack about a month ago could this be why they have stopped laying?

The stress of a dog attack can definitely halt ovulation for a while. I had an attack on one coop. I got 2 eggs the first day and then not another for 2 months.

Along with that, this is the time of year that 18 month old chickens molt. That also stops laying until after they grow their new winter coat.
Stress, (like a dog attack) at this time of year can start them all on the molt routine.
Most breeds don't molt till their second autumn but will do so every year thereafter so in future years, start hoarding eggs for this lean time. Some will start up again after feathers regrow and some may wait till after winter solstice.
If you're sure molt is over, you can increase day length with a light on a timer and they'll start up again.

A dog attack can definitely stress a chicken for a while. When they get older they will slowly start to lay a little less. The dog attack definitely affected the egg production.

Hope this helped!
