We really haven't put too much out for our chickens. Right now feed cost is pretty high since they can't be out. This past summer we built and moved into a new home in five months time. My husband was pulling his hair out with the the building, my stess relief was sneaking off to sit in the quiet of the coop with my chicks. Just call it chicken therapy. I couldn't put a dollar amount on my birds ... I just want to find an acceptable way get more.

Or you could explain to your husband about inflation, quantitative easing by the Fed, devaluation of the US dollar and our overall economic dilemma in general, and and then conclusion would unarguably be that now is the BEST time to invest in chickens regardless of the cost.

At least you get eggs. My laying hens all turned into roosters and won't lay no matter how many pep talks I give them!

They didn't even appreciate the pretty little nests I made them.

Cost- about $20 in feed (Egg Layer of course) and $10 for a box of nails

Chickens don't care if their hen-house is cute. They just want safe, dry, and draft free. Anything you spend on the housing past that point is part of your landscaping cost.
