How much is a hen's egg laying ability affected by sunshine? I'm new to this, just building the coop. Should we situate it in more sunshine rather than less? Thanks for your help!

Chickens like a dark place to lay their eggs but do need sun to help produce the egg. If they will have access to sun via a run..that should be fine....

I don't know how your climate is in the summer.

Around here, we worry about them being able to get enough shade in the summer. But when it's chilly, they all gather in the sunshine to get warm. Maybe a little of each is best.

As far as how much sunshine for eggs - they basically need daylight, i think.
