eggs and yogurt

i see threads about giving chicks boiled eggs and yogurt

what are the benefits of doing this?

The eggs are a good source of protein. The yogurt provides good bacteria to get their GI system off to a good start.

I've never bothered with the yogurt myself, as I'm not really big on all that molly-coddling, special diet and macrobiotic business for chickens. All chicks I've ever reared have done just fine without all that.

But if you're inclined, why not?

i am a newb and was looking for a successful first start ... the kids love it -- the wife is on board .... a failure would probably mean a waste and not sure if they would pick it up again


i love raising chickens ... did it when i was 12 -- i would buy them cheap, take care of them, and then sell them to my father for a profit when it came to having bbq chicken --- win/win


i tryed again when i was 18 with a black australorps ... neighbors dog ate it ... haven't touched them since --- it's been 12 years since the last time i did it

the yogurt is also a good 'pick me up' for any of the babies that are struggling. we had a turkey poult last year we thought for sure was going to die - but we put him alone in an extra warm brooder with some plain yogurt and he bounced back.

and as above - the hard boiled eggs are good extra protein - it also has the benefit of being amazingly entertaining - just drop one in and watch the rugby match begin!
