How do you tell the difference between healthy, tired chick versus needy chick?

The healthy tired chick will occasionally walk around like normal and get bursts of activity. An unhealthy one will not. They sleep a lot at first though.

Hello there!

First time hatcher, long time chicken owner. So I have one of those little giant foam incubators with 13 chicken eggs in it. We had our cost hatch today and another has pipped.

The problem I am seeing is that the newly hatched chick is bumbling into the other eggs, making them roll over. I don't want those chicks to get confused and move in their eggs because they are already in position to hatch. For the time being, I have surrounded baby chick's area with the pieces of sponge I am using to increase the humidity to keep her from knocking into the others.

My question is, what are the normal methods for preventing this from happening?

Don't worry about them running into each other this is perfectly healthy for the eggs. This will actually help stimulate the other eggs to hatch. So do not worry about this one bit. Just pulled a 100% hatch and didn't worry about them running into each other. Once they are in position a little roll in the egg does not move the chick inside the egg. Just moves the egg. This actually helps. And is very natural in the actual nest of chickens or ducks.
