I've seen folks do this different ways, or at least not mention the specifics, so I'm asking some of you "eggsperts" out there. My last two hatches from purchased eggs haven't gone so well, and I want all the help I can get. My Buff embryos have arrived at the post office and I will be going to pick up soon. The weather is an even temperature, so once I unpack them and place in the incubator with a turner, how long before I turn on the bator and then the turner?

Thanks for any help I can get!

Put your eggs in an egg carton, fat end up, for 24 hours before setting them in the incubator. This will give them a chance to settle. Candle them afterwards to check the condition of the air sacs. If you have a damaged or loose air sac (possible with shipped eggs) see here:

After letting them settle for 24 hours you can start incubating them. You may have better results incubating them in the upright position and instead of turning, tilt the eggs at a 45* angle 3-5 times a day. With shipped eggs many hatchers do not turn the eggs for the first 2-3 days of incubation, to give the air sacs more time to reattach, if necessary. You can place the eggs in the incubator in a styrofoam egg tray/cartons, but first cut out the bottoms of the egg cups to help with air flow around the eggs. Depending on the condition of the air sacs you can either take them out of the tray on day 18 (lockdown) and lay them on their sides or leave them as they are.
