I have a large gold sex pullet and rhode island red. They're only 4 months old but they seem fully grown. I have a timer turning a light on in the coop at 4 a.m. since it's dark by 5 here. Is it possible they'll lay soon?

Possible, but not likely. What do their combs and wattles look like? They will grow and get very red shortly before laying. Regardless of how big the pullet looks you won't be seeing eggs until the waddles and combs develope. Waiting for those first eggs takes forever....

My Golden Comets started laying between 4 and 5 months of age. They have been like clock work ever since.

Could be soon then. My red sex-link started at 17-weeks. Post some pictures if you can and we'll try for some educated guesses.

Out of 23 pullets, I had 1 start laying at 18 weeks, two more at 20 weeks, and two more at 23 weeks. With you having only two pullets, I'd get the fake eggs in the nesting boxes. They could start laying any day, but the odds are you will have to wait a while. When they actually start is very individual.

Good luck!
