I have a couple of red sexlinks (15 weeks+2days old) that have been scratchin around in the nest boxes lately. Does this mean that they're "checkin it out" and are hopefully going to drop an egg soon?? One did something that I'm thinkin was the egg squat, but I've never heard the egg song.. From your own experiences, how long would you say it is until they lay?

Ps- the combs and wattles of a few of my birds have increased in size and redness the last few days•••If that helps at all...

My pullets exhibited this type of behavior a couple of weeks before I got the first egg...keep an eye out - exciting!

my red sex links started laying at 20 weeks old. 5 of the 6 are now laying everyday now. they just turned 21 weeks old.

The egg squat.....You'll know it when you see it. As you approach the hen she'll stop dead in her tracks, squat down and open her wings a little. She looks like she's getting ready to give you (LOL!) a piggy back ride. My hen started doing that about three weeks before she laid her first egg. My hens have been scratching around in the nesting boxes since we first put them in about two months ago.
