When I was incubating eggs for the first time ever a couple of weeks ago, I read several posts mentioning eggs exploding if they were not fertile/viable. With my not knowing how to candle an egg to determine whether or not it was fertile, I spent all three weeks of incubation worried about an egg's exploding.
Is that a common occurrance?
Has anyone ever had it happen?
Why would some explode and others not?

They should smell before they explode, at least from what I've read.

Eggs explode when bacteria have infected them. Depending on what kind of bacteria, growth rate, I suppose, the egg can get filled up pretty fast, so there's not *always* a lot of weeping or smelling going on, LOL. So, it's best to keep track of things by candling. If you see a blood or bacterial ring, get em out of there fast. And yes, if it does happen, you can clean the other eggs with mild soap and warm water--don't scrub, just rub. It's a bad thing to have happen...

It is really disgusting.

My LG never recovered from that one, the foam isn't as white anymore inside. :[.

Look at it this way, it gave me the push to learn how to candle. Haha.

well, I had one egg zipping when it happened...and the egg that exploded was too dark for me to candle and I think that chick hurried real fast...soon as it was out, I scooped them out and transferred to the brooder then soaked and scrubbed my incubator!

it was gross!
