That's sad, such a large count of eggs but having such a small fertility count. I hope you can get more the next timeHi, today my hen that was previously sat on the eggs rejected them. I candled all 12 but only had 5 that were fertile. I set the incubator up as i thought this was the next best option. However i’ve never used it before and put the eggs in slightly wrong, 3 fell whilst rotating. There doesn’t seem to be any damage and i don’t want to candle them again as they’ve aulready gone cold once. Does anyone know if they’ll still be ok or if this will have damaged them inside?
We hope so too, thank youThat's sad, such a large count of eggs but having such a small fertility count. I hope you can get more the next time
Thank you, i will check her and the nesting area. I never thought of that. Would that cause her to break some of her eggs or do you think that’s something else? Because she cracked a few.Welcome to BYC, and good luck with the incubation. Check the hen and the nest site. One common reason for hens stopping brooding is a mite infestation.
Thank you so much!Howdyand Welcome to Backyard Chickens.
Depending on how far they dropped, they should be ok, that late in the incubation process they are nearly fully developed and a drop without cracking the egg shouldn't hurt them other than a jarring. Hope they hatch.
