Eggs fell off the roost

I have a leghorn who laid several eggs that had no shell , it was like liquid paper. She also layed the egg off of the roosting board , it fell and hit the ground. Does anyone know why she isn't using her nesting box???? and why the eggs had barely a shell and just raw yoke for 2 days in a row??

. They need layer formula feed which has calcium they need to make shells hard. You can get Oyster Shells and give it free choice. Try putting fake eggs in the nesting boxes. You can buy fake eggs on line but, golf balls, plastic eggs filled with sand and glued tight will work too.

Thankyou fried green eggs, i will put a plastic egg or golf ball, in their nesting box to try to get them to lay their eggs there. the chickens are 18 weeks old about and I just want to finish my bag of dumor grower/finisher before i feed them the layer, i have just given them oyster shells yesterday and they ate them pretty fast. They will get layer feed today i decide.

You can mix the grower feed in with layer feed to get it used up. The oyster shells free choice is a good idea. Good Luck.

give them plenty of calcium like oyster shells. oh and try giving them left over milk from cearal.
