My flock was reduced to 2 by predator attack. My 2 remaining birds were RIR, 6 mos old and both layed daily.... every day. One bird died in the coop of unknown cause approx 3 weeks ago. My remaining hen seems healthy and OK but has not layed since her companion passed away. I have acquired 5 new birds (swedish flower hens and rhodebars) who are currently 6-9 weeks old so she has company. What can else can I do for her?? I want her to be happy and begin to lay again.

Give her time - she will lay again. The predator attack, addition of new birds, shortening day length and a possible molt (it's that time of year) are all factors involved in her taking a break.

Ok-that makes sense...thank you
