Eggs hatching... soon?

Thanks feedman77. The obvious then. I bought a brooder and it had a pronged thermometer I took out to check my incubator temperature. It was extremely low so I cranked it up and the temp came up. I may still need to use a blanket around it. Thanks for the reply

The incubator said it was 100.1 this morning and the external thermometer said 103. I'm worried that the incubator is spiking randomly and cooking/killing the eggs. Is there any way to keep it from spiking?

with those incubators not really. but as long as the temp swing is not prolonged (hours). you will be fine.

think of house thermostat you have it set at 70 and it shuts off might shoot up to 71 or 72 as the temp settles.

eggs have thermal mass so they won't move as fast as the air temp.

Looks like I'm going to be budgeting for a better incubator. Any recommendations on one that isn't styrofoam, that has an automatic egg turner, holds temp steady, and doesn't cost as much as a brinsea? Humidity control is a plus. But the brinsea I saw that does all that is like $400/$500

I have a brinsea 20 adv. get great results with it. but I don't use hardly any features other than temp adj. but once it was set is rock solid.

you could look at a brinsea eco about 200 dollars.

I also have 2 1588 genesis hovabators. they are Styrofoam but the have liners. the give almost as good of results as my brinsea. the are about 160 dollars I think. but you turner from your lg will work in it. the hold temp well. decent humidity reading. for a styro they are top of the line.

the last incubator I had was a reptipro 6000. Looks like a small fridge. it is decent. I got it for a good price with a turner for 110 dollars.

so other than the ones I named cannot give any input.

So it's pretty worthwhile to spend the money on the brinsea 20 huh? How many quail eggs do you put in at once?

if you take the wires out over 50 if i remember right.

I used it more for hatching turkeys. But I did hatch a batch or 2 of quail last year.
for a small incubator my brinsea has been great.

Had to go to work so I turned it down to my best guess and went to work. Got home at it was running at 101.9 so I turned it down again. Gonna check it again in the morning. I set the eggs 5 days ago do you think the high temp killed them off?

I think they should be ok. it's still early in the incubation cycle.
