my bantam hens laid eggs that have soft shells--one that actually burst in the hen house. this is the first time it's happened; other eggs have been fine. might it have anything to do with them eating fertilizer put on lawn today?

This happens from time to time with hens (it is fairly common when new young girls start to lay), and usually it's just something in her egg cycle that slipped a gear or something. I agree with adding oyster shell & waiting it out for a week or so.
