Okay, this might be a stupid question. If a chicken lays one egg a day for 2 weeks and sits on them how come they all hatch at the same time? The eggs are 1-14 days old to start so if day 14 egg was hatched at day 21 it would only be 1 week old and day 1 egg would be 5 weeks old, I am confused! Inquiring minds want to know.
I've always been taught that there is no such thing as a stupid question. After all, how else are we supposed to learn?The eggs don't start incubating as soon as they are laid. They will only start to grow once conditions are ideal for them to do so. Those conditions usually are when a hen is sitting on them or they are in an incubator set at the proper temps and humidity. Until then, nothing will happen. I know there are people out there who will be able to explain this better than me, so hopefully you'll get some better, more detailed answers.
It isn't until the hen really sits on them all the time that they start to develop.
