My one egg didn't make it. I checked yesterday and there was movement, but this morning - nothing.

It does simplify my chick-brooding, a bit, but I still hate she didn't make it.

Way cute!! How many eggs did you order off ebay and how far did they travel??? I'm not having the best of luck with shipped eggs:(
Put 25 Silkies in my Brinsea Oct 20 and ended up with only 2 hatching the others full term but dead:hit
Ordered some blue orps and out of 10 only 1 was even fertile and it got a blood ring, so contacted seller as they stated they would replace for cost of shipping and they are, today paid the shipping and am waiting:fl but used my homemade bator for the blue orps as my Brinsea was full, will put in my brinsea as soon as I receive them.

Thanks! I ordered 10, and the seller shipped 12. They came clear across the country - from Tennessee, to central California. I do think the trip from San Jose to my village is the worst on the eggs. The box got bumped a little, no eggs broke, but 7 of the eggs had the yolks tear/burst. This is my second try with shipped eggs - my previous hatch was way better 8 out of 14 hatched, even though 2 or 3 eggs cracked in transit. I'm looking forward to seeing how these orps develop. If they turn out nice, then I may try again.

Sorry about the silkies... full term but dead would be hard..

Glad you got two though.
hope your next shipment of orps do better!

If they are all siblings which were started at the same time and most have hatched, I tend to start chipping into the airsac as soon as all the pipped are done hatching. So far, they all seem to hatch in the same period of time, and it is only the dead who have not pipped by the last hatching. But that is my limited experience of small hatches. I suspect a saner person would tell you to wait till day 24 or something.

Hope the one pip comes out soon!!!!!!

Six chicks hatched.

One egg I had candled earlier and thought was a dud hasn't hatched. Will keep it in for one more day, candle it, and then make my decision.

So far, the Brinsea mini has hatched 13 out of 14 eggs. A very good rate.
