Just set some Marans eggs in the incubator today first time trying to hatch chicken eggs sent through the mail. Keep your fingers crossed for me, some are Bev Davis and Wade Jeane lines. If they hatch I could end up with Black copper, blue copper, or splash marans. I sure hope I get some chicks! and hopefully some end up being hens!

Going to set some bantam eggs later this evening myself....wanna be hatching buddies? Half of mine are shipped eggs, and half are "home grown!" Let the games begin!!

I have an automatic egg turner so there's not a lot for me to do, but on the plus side I don't have to remember to turn eggs which is a pretty big comfort to me since I tend to be rather scatterbrained most of the time. Some crazy useless facts tend to stick in my brain for years. Today I read an article about the complex life cycle of a ant brain parasite, which is interesting but now I don't know math, lol. Well its not that bad but sometimes I wonder why I can't remember a phone number but for some reason a random useless fact my mind might decide to file in the old memory bank, oh well that's how it goes I guess. What day are all you hatchies going to candle your eggs on?

I can totally relate to the memory issues, Sylverfly!! That's one of the reasons the 'bator is near the house-bunny's cage, since I have to check there multiple times a day (esp. early and late) to be sure he has plenty of water and feed...that way I have to see the 'bator out of the corner of my eye and CANNOT forget it! LOL! This is only my second clutch without a broody, and I didn't have a good hatch percentage the first time. Oh, and after watching "bowling for chicks" in the incubator on hatch day the first go-round, I'm trying hatching in cartons this time!

I plan on candling the first time at 1 week. Best of luck to you and LovinChickens!!
