eggs in winter

Quote:
It's normal. Different breeds lay differently. My game hens are seasonal and my standard poultry all lay different too. I don't use extra light but only have a few adult hens and a good many pullets at POL. Winter does not affect my adult hens much but is harder on the pullets. MS had a Freeze Alert at the beginning of this month and that did have an effect on all of my hens but they have returned to normal shortly after.
Just hang in there.

Yeah Sylvia! Xtra treats for you. Yesterday their combs seemed Xtra red, and today I get an egg. It's funny I didn't notice their combs getting paler, and they certainly weren't sick.

The one who was attacked by the dog may take a bit longer to start paying rent. A couple days ago I went to check on her fussing (only her, could it be the egg song?) No eggs. She swore it was the biggest dog she had ever seen- almost as big as a horse. Then I see it. A poor doe has been frightened by the squawking and is panicking trying to find an escape route. I suppose when a dog bites your butt, everything starts to look like a dog.
