My mother-in-law tried to hatch some eggs with no luck. We have two different opinions as to why. Which is more likely? Too many hens on the nest? Or, a "lazy" rooster? Here are the basics ....
She collected 12 eggs over a week's time and put them in the nest. At any give time over the last 3 weeks, 3 hens would be on the nest at one time. About 2 weeks in, another 13 eggs were added to the nest.
My observation of the rooster is that he is always standing up in the window of the coop. The only time I have seen him down out of the window is when food was brought in. There are only 4 hens in there with him and their backs always look clean. His spurs are 2 - 3 inches long.
What do you think?
