Eggs not hatching?

Hi two days ago one out of 15 of our little aracuna eggs hatched but unfortunately the chick died. We have been waiting patiently but no other eggs have hatched, will they or has something gone wrong?

Wait a while yet. But it doesn't sound like any more will be hatching. If your using an incubator you might want to check temperature and humidity readings. Many devices are inaccurate. Better luck next time.

Realistically, the chances of anymore hatching are very very slim if the hatcher was on time. The farther away from the ideal 21 days the less chance you have of healthy hatchlings. By the end of day 22 I recommend candling to see if there is any life and for hatches that have a significant amount of DIS or dying after pip, I would eggtopsy to see if you can pinpoint the time of death and any hints as to what may have happened to compromise the hatch. Sorry to hear of discouraging hatch.

If you'd like help troubleshooting what went wrong you can give us a little info on the hatch and we can chime in on the possibilities to help you tweak things for a second try.

What kind of incubator are using and is it forced air or still air? Have you checked thermometers/hygrometer for accuracy? What was your temps during the incubation. What was your humidity for the first 18 days an then at lockdown? Were these local eggs or shipped eggs?

Trust me, I feel your pain. I have had limited success with aracunas. They sometimes hatch a little slower than most chickens (about 22 days) but if they survive 3 days, you will be happy with their growth rate. After several failed attempts at incubation at 99.5 I found that varying the temperature between 97 to 100 increased my hatch rate. My first attempt was 4 out of 18 and my last attempt was 6 out of 7. Don't give up.

You have to remember too that true Araucanas-pure breds have a fatal gene. The tuft gene is fatal if the offpring aquires 2 copies. If tufted chicken is bred to tufted roo you will see 1/4 of chicks DIS.

That's a bummer, I have 3 (supposedly) Arucana eggs in my bator right now. They are light bluish, maybe a slight tint or green, but I can't really tell since they are the only blue eggs I've seen. (nothing to compare them too)
