We have only had chickens beginning last July. In the fall, we added on to our coop and rearranged the roosts. We were planning on four to five birds and now have nine (with more in the spring??). After the rearranging, a few of the hens decided to sleep in the nesting boxes instead of the roosts. We have sense fixed that problem, but now they only lay their eggs on the floor in the corner of the coop and do not go anywhere near the nesting boxes. In the beginning, it was not much of a problem, but with cold weather they are spending more time in the coop and the eggs are being buried when other chickens are scratching through the wood shavings on the floor.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get them to use the nesting boxes again?
We put a golf ball in each nesting box when we got them last year and that worked. The golf ball does not seem to be working now.
