Here are a few more details about my current flock. I had 2 roosters along with my original 16 hens. Earlier this year we removed them from the flock, as they were tearing up the hens and stressing them out. I had a friend tell me he removed his roosters, the hens calmed down and started laying nearly twice the eggs. Mine did not. They continued to lay poorly.
With the new group of pullets the hatchery squeezed in a roo. It wasn't long before we removed him from the flock also. I would say around 15-16 weeks is when he packed up and moved away.
We currently do not have a rooster. I have not changed anything in the past 2 weeks. Same feed, same water, heat has not been bad, plenty of ventilation, I am at a lose and stressing out a bit about this. I think I am going to have to start trap nesting and banding those who are laying. I am not sure exactly how this will help, but at least I will know which have been affected by whatever is happening.
