eggs rolling around

I put eggs in the bator yesterday. This is my third hatch this year. It really brothers me that when they start hatching, the chicks that get out first start moving the other eggs. Does this hurt anything. If it does what can I do aout it.

What kind of hatch rates did you have with your other cycles? If things are going well according to the numbers then don't mess with changing anything.
Opening the bator to move chicks away from the other eggs is going to cause more problems than the movement by the hatched chicks will. When my broody hens go through the process there is absolutely movement in the nest area between the first chick pecking out and the last.
I've seen where some people have created dividers from cardboard, plastic canvas, using egg cartons with the bottoms sliced off, etc...but realistically their hatch rates may only be marginally better than without.

It can cause the eggs to turn over and a chick to drown. But I preffer to use damp papertowels ringed around under the eggs. some use the carton method. Personally I dont like the carton method. But that is just my prefference. I have only had 1 out of 67 drown. but i can't blame another chick for it. the egg pipped on bottom!

I hatch in egg cartons so I don't have that problem anymore. My hatch rates are better since I started doing it that way.

50% isn't bad at all, especially on shipped eggs.

Thanks....As long as the girls keep laying I'll be listing eggs.

..... or at least until it gets too hot to ship.
