I've been tryting not to worry but I broke down & gotta ask! I ordered some eggs that just arrived this morning & there was not a single marking on the box to indicate that it was FRAGILE, or THIS END UP, or anything! I literally SAW the post lady flip the box back right-side up as she put it on the porch! Gasp!!! Of course, she had no way of knowing it was fragile & upside down though!

I bought these as first flock starters for a friend, & really wanted to hatch her some nice Light Sussex.

I'm a first timer @ this whole shipping & hatching eggs business, so somebody please tell me that they will prolly be ok??? Pleeeeease? They are going under a broody this evening

Thanks everyone

I would let them settle tonight (egg cell up) and put them under tomorrow. If there not broken i think theyll be fine

Same thing happened here, I found mine sideways in the mailbox. 4 out of 10 hatched for me so there is some hope of them making it. I don't know why a sender would not at least put fragile on the box!!!!!

I find marking them "fragile" can invite a drop or two.

Seriously, don't worry about it too much. Shipping is rough, so some will be scrambled, no matter how the box is marked.

LOL, My box has fragile written all over it, and it's crunched, luckily the eggs are good. I will post a pic as soon as I get a chance to upload. I will candle tonight to see how the aircells look. Just cuz it says fragile doesn't mean they are careful

candle them, that is your best indicator of hatchability, if aircells are good then they have a good chance. good luck

The day of the postal workers hand carrying the boxes are long gone. The machines that handle the boxes don't care if it says fragile, this way up, or hatching eggs. All boxes are the same until they are in the hands of a human and then we hope that they can read and follow directions.

in my experience, boxes that are unmarked seem to come through better, most of the boxes that have been destroyed are marked, both in those I've shipped and recived

Thanks, guys. I do realize that machines do a lot of the handling, & heard that the ones specifically marked as hatching eggs suffer terrible fates, but man! I thought it would at least have some kind of "fragile" or "this end up". Our mail lady's good about it, at least. Guess I'm learning!LOL The lady did say that she's had reports of them arriving in good shape, & also good hatch rates! Yay! There's 11 eggs, so hopefully some will hatch. Regardless, here's some pics of what came. Anyone care to comment? This is only my 2nd candling attempt. I can't tell if air cells look intact, but maybe I'm blind to the fact? "EGG C" looks like I can see it....Help! Help! Somebody save my babieeeeeeeeez! LOL

I always ask people that I buy eggs from to not put anything on the box. I have had to many crushed boxes I don't trust some of the postal workers.

I also never put anything on the box when I send eggs Unless someone ask.

I'm also on the "don't mark as fragile" boat. My mom worked for the USPS a few years back and witnessed first hand of employees purposely tossing boxes marked "Fragile." I personally think they would have a better chance if they are unmarked but that's my opinion.
