I am trying to get a consensus on this...

how long can an egg sit in the nest, unincubated but there was a roo around

before a person should not gather to eat?

I have heard many things that attribute to longevity including natural "sealant" so to speak on the egg pores but like is a week too long? I found a new hiding spot the girls found that was created last week when we moved hay. Several dozen eggs in there!

If eggs have been out in a nest setting for an unknown time I would throw them all out.

You can do a water test and see which are fresh however my concern would be the contaminants and other uncleanliness that could infect the eggs.

Eggs should be gathered daily (a few times day if possible) and removed to a clean place of storage.

Again, I would not eat them.

You can boil them all and chop them up and feed them back to the chickens with cook rice and yogurt for an awesome treat.
