I have four Easter Egger hens that are about 3 and a half months old and their combs are now completely red. Does that mean they're closer to maturing and laying eggs? I'm not sure if it relates, this is my first time owning chickens. Thank you!

Comb and wattles do get red and larger at sexual maturity but 14 weeks would be extremely young. I wouldn't expect any till they're 20 weeks or more.

Thank you!
I read that if they reach egg laying age when it's fall/winter they won't lay eggs until the spring because it's cold. We're in southern California though and it never gets to be all that cold. Will they still lay or do we have to run a light into the coop?
