What is going on with these eggs?

We have four Easter Eggers. Year and 3 months old. Two of them lay green eggs, the other two lay blue. Over the last month, the blue layers have been laying eggs with major calcium deposits. However, I keep finding completely smashed blue eggs in the nesting box as well as Death Star blue eggs(dented). About 90% of the calcium eggs float in water. Their behavior is normal. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be causing this and how to help our girls get back to normal?

I had this problem for a little while, I would suggest feeding the two different breeds seperatly.

yes, I am seeing a very similar thing for the past 3 months. Feeding Naturewise Hearty Hen, soy free 18% protein. I have fed this for 3 years and added crushed, dried egg shells. However 2 hens are exhibiting the same problem with extremely thin shells. If they are not crushed when the lay them they crush when I touch them. Chickens are in their 3rd year and 4th year -one is an ISA BROWN and one a Bielefelder.

You are not offering oyster shell? If you only keep feeding the girls' eggshells back to them, they will lose calcium over time due to attrition. Each time the chickens eat and process the eggshells, they leach some of the calcium out of them, so there is less calcium in the eggshells you are feeding to them, and, consequently, less in the eggs they lay. Hence, extremely thin shells in the eggs you harvest. Provide oyster shell and all will be well.
